Shall Come
"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37
"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me." Here is a peek into the eternal Council of Peace. Before the foundations of the world were laid, the Father, in His sovereign love, chose a people for Himself and gave them to His Son (John 17:6). They were not chosen because of their specialness, talent, looks, or deeds, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23) They were chosen out of sheer grace, that the riches of His mercy might be displayed.
The word "shall" carries with it divine certainty. There is no room for failure or missing the blessing. Those whom the Father has given to the Son shall come to Jesus. Though they may wander in sin, though their hearts may resist for a time, the Spirit of God will irresistibly draw them with cords of love. His grace is irresistible—not because He forces unwilling hearts, but because it changes rebellious hearts into willing ones. What a comfort to know that salvation rests not on us but on the Father’s unchanging purpose!
The Invitation to Come
"And him that cometh to me..." This is personal, directed to every sinner who hears His voice. To "come" to Christ is not a matter of physical movement, but of the soul turning to Him in faith. It is the prodigal son rising and saying, "I will arise and go to my father." (Luke 15:18) It is the woman with the issue of blood pressing through the crowd, saying, "If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole." (Matthew 9:21)
Christ’s words are a beautiful simplicity. It does not say, "Him that cometh to me perfectly," or "Him that cometh to me with great strength," but simply "him that cometh." The weakest faith, the faintest cry for mercy, is received by Christ with open arms. There is no precondition to this coming other than the need for a Savior.
The Assurance of Acceptance
"...I will in no wise cast out." Here lies the heart of the gospel. Christ’s promise is firm and unbreakable. No sin is too great, no stain too deep, no history too dark for His cleansing blood. The soul that comes to Him finds a refuge that cannot be shaken.
Do you feel unworthy? Me too. Do your sins rise like mountains before you? You are not alone. But dear one, let us listen to the words of Christ: "I will in no wise cast out." Our acceptance before God rests not on our works, but on His. He was “cast out” upon the cross of wood so that you might be brought in. His righteousness becomes your covering; His wounds, your healing.
A Call to Faith
Dear soul, this verse speaks to the trembling heart. They give hope to the doubting soul. Come. Bring your sins, burdens, your fears, your failures, and lay them at His feet. The promise stands sure. You will not be cast out. He will take you, cleanse you, and make you His own forever.
This is the glorious assurance of the gospel: those given by the Father will come to the Son, and those who come will never be turned away. In this double truth, God's sovereignty and man's burden meet in perfect peace. Rest in it, dear soul, rejoice in it, and proclaim it to a world in desperate need of such hope.
A needed message today!
"What a comfort to know that salvation rests not on us but on the Father's unchanging purpose" Hallelujah ! What lasting hope that brings to any troubled heart of a child of God.
