My Jewels
"And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels." Malachi 3:17
Our text says, "my jewels.” The marginal note says, "My special treasure.” But of whom is He speaking? Seraphs? Angels? No, redeemed sinners. The fallen children of men, buried in the earth’s crude dust, who lie in "the horrible pit and miry clay" of corruption.
Found by grace,
purchased by love,
and predestined to be set as jewels in the crown of Christ!
What other names does He call these special treasures by? He calls them friends, sons, children, heirs, my jewels. And when did they become so precious to Him? From everlasting. But in our experience, dear one, when you wept at the cross for sin and were united to Christ by faith. At that moment, you became His jewel. Yes, He loved you with everlasting love. That’s why He came. But it was not until you believed, that you were changed. Only after could you see, "He loved me with an everlasting love.”
But are you set in that diadem right now? Have you been transplanted into His crown today? Not quite. There is blasting, cutting, shaping, and polishing to be done before you go.
So, your trials are blasting you,
affliction is cutting you,
and sorrow is shaping you, polishing your facets.
And how exactly are these precious jewels kept until that great Day? They are "kept by the power of God.” The True Aaron, our great High Priest, has them in His breastplate. He’s bearing them next to His heart, even now. And though our sins, and the enemy of our souls, do what they can to destroy us, He has promised that none shall ever pluck them out of His hand (His heart).
A jewel in Immanuel's crown,
chosen in eternity,
polished in time,
kept in the heart of Christ,
to be transplanted in the crown of God.
What a picture.
