Although Christ repeatedly taught His disciples this doctrine, He grieved over their lack of comprehension. Think of how saving faith stood front and center in the miracles He performed. And pay attention as He does it…it often corresponded with their faith.
The woman with the issue of blood pressed through the crowd to touch His garment, saying, "If I may touch, I shall be whole." She persevered and instantly felt His healing virtue. She was whole. By what power? "Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague."
Blind Bartimeus begged the passing Savior to have mercy on him.
Jesus replied, "What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?"
Bart: "Lord, that I might receive my sight."
Now read the Savior's gracious reply carefully, "Go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole."
The 10th leper had a firm faith and confidence in the power of Christ when he cried, "Master, have mercy on us" (Luk 17:13).
The Lord's reply was, "Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole."
From a knowledge of true faith, Paul says, "The just shall live by faith."
Faith lives, faith breathes, and faith moves.
Or the believer lives by it.
Faith is food, and Christ is the Bread of Life. How's your appetite?
May it be deeply impressed upon your soul that true faith in God is active faith in an object. We do not run to a doctrine or a creed. But a Person. Living faith is more than the clear perception of the Truth. It's the personal appropriation of Truth. A full-bodied rest and settled confidence in Christ's saving work for me. Like these examples, it is an entire dependence on Christ.
